Chaguar Care: Chaguar is a natural fiber, and so are its dyes. Humidity can cause the chaguar to stiffen. If it becomes stiff, simply iron the bag to soften the chaguar and restore the product's shape. Do not wash; dry cleaning is recommended.
Chaguar fiber is hand-picked and woven by women from the Wichí community in the Argentine Northeast.
Obra Hecho a Mano believes a shift in current methods of production and consumer behavior is sorely needed. Their name, "Hand Made" in Spanish, says it all. The chaguar textiles they sell are handcrafted in the Argentine northeastern communities of Tartagal, Salta and El Potrillo, Formosa, following age-old practices. The finishing touches are done in two workshops in Buenos Aires, one of which was founded by a former inmate who learned leatherwork during his stay in prison. Now he manages several workshops, providing employment for his own family and other ex-offenders. He also generates work for people in rural communities and marginalized neighborhoods through the organization of community events.
